Baybayin<\/span><\/span> is an ancient pre-colonial writing system used in the Philippines before Spanish colonization. It is a syllabic script traditionally used by Tagalogs and other Filipino communities to write poetry, personal writings, and communication.<\/p>

Unlike the modern alphabet, Baybayin characters represent syllables instead of individual letters. The script uses symbols with vowel sounds that can be modified using marks called kudlit<\/em>.<\/p>
